"“From the moment we first met Danielle, it was so clear how much joy she gets from teaching these young kids and creating a community of families. Brooklyn Doodles has been the best first school experience I could have imagined for our son Raymond. The school taught him how fun it is to learn, to explore, to be creative, to ask questions. It has the perfect balance of structure and free play, and when I’ve asked Raymond what is his favorite part of BKD he would say the group projects. Danielle’s enthusiasm also extends beyond the traditional classroom, as evidenced by her COVID friendly Halloween scavenger hunt to give us and our kids a sense of normalcy in a challenging year, and her zoom meet and greets with parents as a check in for how everyone was doing. Navigating schools in Brooklyn feels intimidating at times, but BKD is the hidden gem we are so grateful to have found and become a part of.”
Community
As soon as our students enter the classroom community we strive to assure them that their thoughts and actions have meaning and importance. Brooklyn Doodles introduces and encourages both independence and engagement in learning. Students will regularly participate in group activities, including circle time, music, dance, and story time, to build social and school-readiness skills.
Students will also work towards increased independence and responsibility with regard to communication, critical thinking, self-direction, and keeping communal materials and spaces clean and organized. Through partnerships with teachers and families we aim to create an environment that celebrates and values diverse interests, backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs. This relationship is integral to the growth and development of our program and helps to strengthen our community in a truly meaningful way.
Parents are encouraged to actively participate in classroom activities, communicate interests and concerns, and support initiatives that benefit the success of our program.
